Elding: I'm Here To Repay Crewe's Faith
Crewe Alexandra's sixth summer signing Anthony Elding has today told the club's official web-site that he is determined to break into Steve Holland's starting eleven.
The former Leeds United striker finally completed his switch to Gresty Road following our pursuit of the 26-year-old for the last six months and he knows he has a battle on his hands to fully establish himself in the side.
With Steve Holland looking to start the new season with a 4-4-2 formation, Elding may have to wait for his chance behind fellow new recruit Calvin Zola and Nicky Maynard. Elding has trained throughout the summer, but has yet to gain some competitive action under his belt, so Holland will be introducing him gradually into the match action before the start of the season.
Elding has told crewealex.net that he firmly believes he can score goals at this level and when his chance arrives, he is determined to take it.
Elding told the club's official web-site: "I am very happy to have finally got everything sorted. I was delighted to sign yesterday and I am raring to go now. I have come here to play because I didn't think I would be able to do that at Leeds.
"Dennis Wise brought me in there and then just after I had signed he left and a new manager came in. I think that is what killed me in the end but that's football and you just have to get on with it.
"I am disappointed not to have been given a chance at Leeds because most of family are Leeds fans and it was a honour to play for the club and play at Elland Road for them. I am not dwelling on things and I am not out to prove a point to them.
"I want to prove a point to myself because I know I can score goals at this level. Crewe have made their interest in me for a while and they sold the club to me when I came up to meet them. They have stuck to their guns and believed in me, so now I want to repay them with goals and good performances.
Elding was recently left out of Leeds' pre-season tour to Ireland, so he is a little short of match fitness at the moment, but he has kept himself relatively fit over the summer and cannot wait for the new season to start.
"I think I can run all day and do marathons and all the fitness work but there is no substitute for match fitness. I haven't been able to play a game yet so that is the next step.
"I am here to get into the team. There is even the possibility of playing with three up there. I have played in that system at Stockport and scored a few goals coming in at the back stick from the left, so that wouldn't be a problem for me.
He added: "I don't mind where I play either. I will play wherever the manager wants me too, because that is all I am interested in doing."
