Young goalkeeper who was snapped up on scholarship forms by the Alex in 2003 after impressing Academy Manager Steve Holland during a trial spell.
Crewe swooped to sign the Welsh Youth International from under the noses of the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United, where the youngster had previously been involved.
Owain quickly established himself as the clubs Under-18 goalkeeper and was influential in the side which reached the FA Youth Cup Semi Final in 2004.
Having played regularly for Wales at Under-16 level, fon Williams earned call ups to the Under-18 and Under-19 squad and has also been on standby for the Under-21 squad.
He missed much of the 2004/05 campaign after suffering a broken leg early in the season.
After recovering from a broken leg at the end of the previous season, Owain began last term as a regular in the Under-19's and broke into the first team squad in the New Year.
He was named twice on the substitutes bench, the first coming in the FA Cup at Preston, and also gained more International recognition by being named as a substitute for Wales Under-21 side.
Last season saw Owain progress even further. He was a regular on the first team bench following an injury to Stuart Tomlinson and he became a fundamental part of Brian Flynn's Under-21 squad at International level. His first-team bow shouldn't be too far away now.
