Paper Review
Aston Villa target Sam Vokes showed his class as he rifled in a 55th-minute shot. Crewe midfielder Kenny Lunt said: "I still think we've got enough about us to be in League One next season."
-The Sun
Bournemouth breathed fresh life into their survival bid with their 6th win in a row to leave Kevin Bond convinced tat they can stay up.
Sam Vokes' 12th goal of the season completed their best winning sequence since Bond's dad John was in charge of the Dorset club back in the 1970's.
The Cherries boss said: "It has been a topsy-turvy year for us, but we've now given ourselves a great chance of staying up."
Steve Holland, the Crewe Alexandra first team coach said: "I just felt Bournemouth were quite nervous in the first half and it's disappointing that we didn't take advantage."
-The Daily Star
How typical of Crewe to ensure a sweaty finale, just like their last-ditch escapes in The Championship in 2000 and, most memorably, 2005.
But with demotion this time spelling an unwelcome sojourn in Football League's basement, thankfully they start in pole position, unlike three years ago when they were reliant on results elsewhere to guarantee safety.
Bournemouth, too, still need to bank on others failing, but their late renaissance has offered them real hope of an extraordinary Houdini act.
The three results which would spell a shocking and quite unnecessary demotion for Crewe are - a Bournemouth win at a seemingly ailing Carlisle; Cheltenham, with home advantage, beating a Doncaster side surely with their tails up after sneaking into the second automatic spot; and the Alex losing to an Oldham side with nothing but pride and contracts to play for at the Alexandra Stadium.
