Baker - Nicky Has Come Up Trumps.
After Crewe ran out 3-1 winners against Cheltenham Town this afternoon, it was the turn of Neil Baker to talk to the press. The club's assistant manager was delighted that his side held their nerve to record a priceless home win against our fellow strugglers. A point next weekend at Dean Court will do it: "It wasn't an easy 3-1, it's never easy when we play but we made it easy in the end. When they equalised anything could have happened. They were on the front foot and looked the likely winners at that stage. We regrouped though, and Nicky Maynard come up trumps again.
"There were some good performances. Julien Baudet was exceptional and Schumacher probably had his best game of the season, Nicky was lively all the way through. One a day like this though, it's not about individuals it's all about all 11 players.
"We knew at half time that most of the clubs around us were winning. I'm not sure we needed to know. We started the second half poorly, they got on top, but we have always said it's about us and if we can keep winning we will be safe.
"The third one it looked liked Nicky's goal. It was a great header from Julien, he had been dangerous all game at set plays. We thought he would be against their centre halves, he headed one or two free kicks. It was a great header from the corner and Nicky was alive for the rebound.
"Nicky has done well, one or two supporters behind me were saying what would have happened if he had been fit all season. We will never know, we are just glad that he has been fit and playing as well as he has for the last eight weeks or so. It looks as though he is going to keep us in this division.
Bakes added: "I think we need a point still, assuming all the clubs around us win, let's get it over and done with as quickly as we can, we don't want to be playing Oldham in the last game with anything at stake."
